Somos Album (ellos)

“Eureka Son” by Album is probably one of the best CD’s I’ve heard recently. It has a refreshing and different sound compared to the other Mexican groups that have surged in popularity recently (Jumbo, La Gusana Ciega, Volovan, Kinky, etc.) and simply put, they are superior in musical quality.

You can download the entire CD on their website and if you like it, buy the CD at one of their shows (which surely they’ll announce on their own site or if it’s in Monterrey, it will be published on Monterrey Directo)

Among my favorite tracks are: “Hormigas,” “Cowboy” and “Tal vez”

I’ve listened to Eureka Son three times today and it gets better each time. I think it’s definitely gonna end up being one of my top ten favorite albums from this year. If this were a record made by Brian Wilson or Bjork it would be called one of the year’s most artistically innovative works, but instead it was made by a bunch of Mexicans and you probably won’t even visit their English website where you can download every track to every album for free.

Straight up respect to Album for offering up all their songs for free download. I think this is really the future for musicians – they’re going to have to earn their fans first and then we’ll shell out the cash for the concerts. I sure as hell won’t miss Album next time I have a chance to see them.
